Welcome to My Personal Page
Connor and I are excited to be participating in the
Star City Half Marathon for The Lucas Fund!
We will embark on our longest run yet at the Star City Half Marathon! We will be running for the Lucas Fund, a cause that has inspired me and reminded me of strength and commitment in the face of tragedy.
I learned of Jeremy Sanders and the Lucas Fund through my work at the University of Virginia Health Foundation. In 2004, Jeremy and his wife welcomed their first child, Lucas. Lucas’ stay was short. He was born prematurely due to a condition called Hydrops Fetalis. Jennifer was rushed to the University of Virginia Neonatal Care Unit where Lucas was delivered on September 18, 2004. Although his heart sounded strong, Lucas only lived a short while after entering the world.
Jeremy turned to running 2011 and changed his life. He and his wife Jen have committed to helping change the lives of families who are in the same situation they were in 2004. They started the Lucas Fund to raise money for children and families that need the services of the University of Virginia Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Jeremy has dedicated a dollar for each mile he runs to the The Lucas Fund and he now coaches and participates in the Boston Marathon and JFK 50 miler, to name a few.
Connor and I are running for families like the Sanders. The money we raise will support the Lucas Fund’s goal to raise $30,000 over the next three years for the benefit of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s Bereavement Program. The Bereavement Program will use these funds to help emotionally console families with items such as hand and foot molds, memory boxes, offsetting funeral costs, and photography.
